10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Compact 10mm

I may be the lone negative voice for the 29 here but--.
My 1st 10mm was a gen 3 Glock 29 and it ran like a champ. However when I was given a S&W 1066 by my son as a Birthday present things changed. Frankly after the 1st time I took both to the range I never really wanted to fire the 29 again.
The old Smith looked better, felt better, was just as reliable, was not much heaver and about the same size but was and is absolutely on another planet as a shooter from the Glock 29. A Glock 20 might be a better comparison as a shooter but the 29 IMO wasn't in the same room!
My advice is to find an old Smith 1066 or 76 and never look back!!
PS I sold the Glock last year as it just sat in the safe but you will have to pry the old Smith from my cold fingers!!

I used to buy bullets from them, but they have been out for a long, long time... :(
I am with a group here called Bama Carry about 7200 or so on our facebook in less than  2 years. I am talking to Zero about some sponsorship and may be able to persuade them to do a run of 10mm. They just had no real market here for the 10mm but if they did have a market on line maybe---. We need some affordable 10 from some where that is available in particular in my case for range use.
Love Underwood for defensive carry but I don't need 1400+ with 165 FMJ to punch paper at 15-20 yards!!
For thrills here is the Bama carry Facebook site. https://www.facebook.com/groups/BamaCarry/
I am a leader in my county (Jefferson) so any here from Alabama come on over an join us!!

Zero ammo is close to me and i know the owners sister. I just inquired with them on 10mm and got this response.
QuoteI'm sorry - Zero hasn't made any 10mm ammo in several years and I really don't look for it to happen any time in the near future. We just don't have enough requests to justify changing the machine over to run it. For a while, there were several police departments that used 10mm guns and we did have a little supply of it. However, the 10mm users slowly dwindled down and we sold out of what we had (over several years time - it took quite a while to sell it).

Another problem we have is getting enough powder to run the ammunition we need. Powder is very scarce, as you probably know, and we haven't received a good supply in over 6 months. If powder were more plentiful, they might run some of those load like 10mm and 357 Mag for stock.
This is what the website is showing http://www.rozedist.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=RZD&Category_Code=ZBA-10MM
Wonder if we could out a deal on a pre-order?
Now that the Priv is pretty much gone Underwood is about all we have that is sane in price.
GREAT defense ammo but way to hot for punching paper IMO so--.

So here is the big question --. Has the Colt Delta Elite been redesigned now to a point it is really safe to run full power 10mm in without a ramped barrel??
They look good feel great and are quite accurate but the lack of support issue has kept me well clear of that pistol to this point.
I have been looking hard at the Kimber or Rock Island in the 1911 10mm and discounted any thoughts of owning a Delta so far for that reason.
IS THE DELTA ELITE TRULY A SAFE PISTOL  running full power 10MM or NOT???

In the end here I have decided to walk away from this one. Reason being while I have seen a couple positive reviews on the more common long slide version of this pistol, every single comment I have found on the subcompact version is not a positive one. In particular these look so unreliable and prone to jamming that it would be useless as anything other than a collectable oddity.
It's still available so if any of you guys have some positive input on the subcompact version let's hear it other wise I am going to leave this one alone.

Not an expert by no means. But, stands to reason if your DE ran flawlessly with the Double Tap and Buffalo , and now having problems, I'd say it is a spring(s) related problem. I agree with now needing a different mainspring.

I know some guys say run a heavy recoil and an equally heavy mainspring. Maybe so with the stout loads. In my RIA 10, it runs flawlessly with a 20# recoil and 22# mainspring.

My RIA 10MM has never been able to cycle light loads reliably so it has had a underwood diet. At this point I have built the RIA to shoot those loads so no going back.
He has a Colt Delta bro not a RI or S&W he does not need to be running full power 10mm loads like the Underwood in it it's not safe!

Does sound like a spring issue to me so I would suggest you replace the main spring and recoil spring as a set with the stock power set then stay with the commercial watered down loads rather than full power in a Delta.

I own both a 4043 and a 1066. The 4043 is nice but the 1066 is a real beast. I just sold my Glock 29 because after I bought the 1066 I just never wanted to shoot the Glock again.
If you get a shot at a nice 1066 take my advice and snag it trust me you will never look back or want to shoot that Glock 29 again!
Now I want a 1006 for the range!
On weight I have carried both the Glock 29 and the S&W 1066 and with the right holsters both are quite comfortable to carry. Yes the S&W is a little heavier but it's also a little thinner and not as "brickesh". As a shooter however the 1066 makes the Glock 29 feel like a cheap toy in comparison!

Honestly I'd buy it. I've nearly bought the midsize for $600 I did some research and apparently the founder still makes parts to keep the guns running.
Thanks for that anybody else got anything here?

Found one of the ultra rare 3-3/8 Wyoming 10mm Parkers for sale in a local shop today. It's cheap it's small for a 10mm but is it some thing to seriously look at?
First concern no ramp barrel second is just the overall fit and finish it just kinda looked cheap the third is can you find parts.
Could likely bring it home for $300 so what say you guys??

Ascension, nice find!  Pistol looks to be in great shape from the picture you supplied.  You'll have to provide a range report, as to its accuracy.  Thanks, for the post.
Ran a hundred rounds last Friday and it grouped well. Sights were dead on (unlike my 1066 which shot quite LOW with the S&W factory night sights). Only hitch was the heavier than I like DAO trigger pull. Ordered a set of reduced power Hammer springs ( 16,17 and 18 lb) From Wolff as well as a standard power recoil spring that should be here early this week. Keep you posted on the progress.

Handguns / New (to me) S&W 10mm short

Gen 3 aluminum frame 4043 that was a local pawn shop find. I replaced my Glock 29 with it as my normal carry pistol when I don't want to deal with the weight of my 1066. Ran a few hundred rounds at the range with it a couple days ago and she shot flawlessly.
Shot pretty well with it but fought the DAO heavy trigger pull and had to really take my time with it to get decent groups. Long smooth pull that is what I wanted with a carry pistol but heavier than it needs to be so so I ordered a reduced power hammer spring pack from Wolff last night. When I get it tweaked in this one should be a really nice shooter.  I had a store credit at the shop  and was looking for an EDC pistol that wasn't made of tactical tupperware so--.
Here she is

With it's big bro!

Pocket pistols are belly guns. Don't sweat the sights. Any sights. If you're far enough away you need sights, you're out of range. You should be able to hit COM at 7 yds, blindfolded. If not, you or the pistol is not up to the task.
Really? FYI I own a little TCP Taurus .380 that I shoot quite respectably with. Took out a big 100+ lb Bull Mastiff with it at 10 feet last year that had grabbed my dog by the neck while I was walking him on a reel leash. I put 2 rounds of 95 grain +P .380 Corebond JHP's on target and the big bull down for good . COM at 7 yards is not a problem trust me. Heck if you are within 30 yards of me and I'm shooting at you with the little TCP you are in world of HURT!!

Had a chance to really look one over yesterday and it was very very impressive.  Fit and finish was superb and it felt really good in the hand.
Price is steep but what about performance?

Handguns / Re: Any Browning Hi-Power Fans?

I am and have owned a number of them over the years. They just feel right in my hand like nothing else. the Gen 3 S&W's are a close second and I own a few of those also.
These 2 are my currents with the FEG now residing with my Son.

My baby the Browning I have owned for over 20 now and she has seen many thousands of rounds!

I have ran a few boxes of the 185 FMJ Underwood without an issue. It was only about 5 or so rounds the one box of the 165 JHP's that seemed overly hot.
Today I went out with a buddy after Church and ran about 20 rounds of the 165 JHP out of another box I had without an issue that I could tell. However we were in a pasture and I was not able to find a single round of the brass ( and the reason I shot only the 2 mags then my junk steel case .380 and 9 mm cheap stuff today) .
