blue dot for the bulk practice loads loaded with plated bullets.

Longshot for the warmer 180 xtp's. metes well.

800X for the real good stuff. Hand weigh every charge under a 200 Gr XTP, for a true 10mm load.

for practice, i load  a cast 175 Gr Lee TL bullet, same as i run in 40.

The 180 XTP is my carry load, and the 200 gr XTP is my woods/survival/SHTF/EOTWAWKI load. I'd be fine with the 200 XTP for about anything, though it migh be overkill for urban carry. god thing i'm not an urbanite.

I'd REALLY like to get a quality steel mold, multi cavity, for a 200 gr 10mm bullet for both a general purpose/practice load for all the mixed brass i have. 1-2K of that loaded up with a charge of blue dot would make me happy.

Handguns / Re: 10mm/40 S&W Convertibles

Currently, my 10mm crush is a Ruger GP-100 converted to shoot 10mm/40 in moon clips.

I have to 1) aquire said GP 100 and 2) Get a smith to convert it, the only one i have read of doing it is not accepting new work

General Discussion / Re: Should You Dry Fire a Glock?
September 28 2012 03:09:45 AM MDT
a weapon, besides a 22, that cannot be dry fired is not worth owning. Dry firing is THE way to learn/practice/perfect technique.

I am not satisfied with an "ok" or mediocre level of skills. Dry fire is a major component in this practice.

i like how he shows the muzzle during rapid fire- for those who say the 10mm is "too slow on follow up shots"

General Discussion / Re: " Load Data"

I have subscribed in the past.

If you load for many calibers, its ok, or if you want to do some research.

I will say that generally, it gets new data a little sooner than a manual.

It will be worth it for a year or two, then a deminishing return.

I have quite a bit of once fired, and bought 2K of new starline brass, as well as 500 starline nickel.

"real" rounds go in the new brass- 180's in brass, heavy 200gr in nickel.
I shoot these a few times, then they go into the "GP and practice load" brass bucket.

The starline holds up really well to the hotter loads.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: My favorite load

Unique is a great general purpose powder. i use it for practice loads in 38, 9mm, 40, 45 and a little bit in 10mm.  I get the 8# jugs, and i don't bother with the 1# cans anymore.

If i am going to send an XTP from a 10mm, it will be going 10mm speed, and unique wil not quite do it...so i get out the 800X. Too bad, if i could get a 200 gr XTP to 1200 in a 10mm, i'd be in heaven.

for general carry, i like 180 gr XTP's, though i do have a hot 200gr XTP load i really like.

General Discussion / Re: Why 10mm?
July 21 2012 12:31:16 AM MDT
A few years ago in SQ magazine, i wrote an article titled "the 10mm as a  survival cartridge" This article stemmed from a discussion just like this one.

1) power
2) range
3) Flat useable trajectory
4) symbiosis with the G-20 in particular.
5) extremely versatile.
6) power AND capacity, Weight AND velocity
7) plat form can take any 10mm derivative with a drop on barrel change.

My hot 230gr loads in my g-21 have MORE recovery time that my hot 200 gr XTP loads in my 10mm. The 10mm recoil is "faster: at least it seems to be for me, and IIRC, it was .1 quicker on the timer. I'll have to try again.

The 10 is not for everybody, but if you can dedicate the time and effort, its worth it.

EDC the G-20, year round.

I swapped from the g-21 about 5 years ago.
