10mm revolvers / Re: Ruger and S&W 10mm revolvers

Hope you are still enjoying your new 10mms...have you added any more to the stable...

As to 610 vs GP-100...main reason I went with a 4" GP-100 is size...  I have a ton of S&W .41 Magnums and another N-frame .40 cal just wasn't needed.

Have three GP-100s, 10mm MC, 4" stainless .327 and another 4" in .357 Magnum...  The triggers on both the .327 and 10mm are very good but the one on the .357 is EXCELLENT. All are dead stock factory.

Tested out the loads yesterday and were much more pleasant to shoot.

Fired 27 rounds at a 6" paper plate at 10 yards two handed standing and they all went into 4".

Welcome to the world of TEN...

Like you I got into the 10mm game late...but as usual jumped in in a big way...  Once the dust settled five were left...
Glock 40/4 6" & 9"
SIG Nightmare Carry with Fusion 10mm barrel 4.25"
Kimber Stainless Target II 5"
Kimber Stainless Target Longslide 6"
PARA-USA Elite LS Hunter 6"
...and one revolver...GP-100 MC. 4"

As to 5" vs 6",...what is it going to be for... Concealed carry, hunting, target shooting, woods bumming...just plinking...

If all of the above get the 5...  If it isn't going to be carried much the 6...

If you have not shot a 10mm with full 180-200 grain loads at 1200+ fps I would suggest you try before you buy....they are a little snappy...and while still snappy from a 6" really quite fun to shoot.

Just came back from the range testing some new loads...decided that 200s at 1225 from the SIG were just a little much for the 70 year old wrist...mid-1100s was much more pleasant and I doubt anything shot with them will know the difference...

Have a great time choosing...Bob

The first batch of 200 grain LBT hardcast from Montana bullets were loaded with Longshot.

Did function tested but didn't chronograph:
LOA: 1.250
7.8
8.1
8.6

As all checked out loaded up a batch of 8.6 and got the following:

RIA TAC II 4.25":  1210

PARA Elite LS Hunter 6":  1260

G40/4 6' stock barrel:  1231

G40/4 9" LW barrel: 1346

Have since sold the RIA (excellent shooter but didn't like the bull barrel) and replaced it with a SIG Nightmare Carry 4.25" that was originally .357 SIG and now has a Fusion barrel.

Tonight loaded up:
205 grain Lyman FP-PC
205 grain MP FP
200 grain MP Cup Point

All have 8.0 grains of Longshot.

Since my woods load for the .41 Magnum are bullets between 200-250 grains in the 1030-1180 fps range just decided that instead of pushing the 10mm hard, get back a little more followup shot control...

...wonder if S&W came out with a 10m now because of declining sales of the M&P line in .40 S&W....

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: UNDERWOOD 140 EXTREME PENETRATOR
January 05 2021 03:42:25 PM MST
The first round out a G40 was 1701...two more were in the high 1600s...  If you stuck the case in the ground it would have looked like a mushroom...  I was really surprised they didn't blow...

Contacted Underwood and they had me send the box back...must have been a bad run as the replacements were 1600 fps and zero case expansion issues...

It is the ammo I keep on board when driving...I figure the G40 is a lot handier and concealable than one of the AK or AR pistols and should get the job done..

I've got nothing against ports as I have a bunch of .357s and .41s that have been to Mag-Na-Port...but "holes" in the end of a traditional SAA barrel just leaves something to be desired from an aesthetic perspective....

Will be waiting to see how it shoots...

That is an "interesting"  :o conversion....can't imagine touching off a BB Outdoorsman load in one...

I've got one in .38 Super and it has run like a top...

Last month I tried out some 200 hardcast in my G40 along with some 165 Gold Dot HP and 155 Berry's plated TC-HB loads.  All are going in the mid to upper 1200s from the 6" barrel.

Didn't notice any bigger groups with the hardcast vs. the jacketed or plated bullets and this was with the stock barrel. Zero feeding issues with any of the rounds...

Was wondering how much larger groups everyone has been getting with hardcast...

Thanks...Bob

Got to shoot the new Kimber Long Slide along with the PARA-USA Hunter on the 24th... Both shot the  same size groups.

Only issue with the Kimber was with some 200 grain hard cast rounds. Was just putting five rounds in a magazine and one out of each mag would FTF to some extent. The last time it happened the slide was just a 1/4" short of going into battery... Only ran 15 of them through the gun and may just need a little more break-in....  Some Gold Dot HPs and some plated Berry's 155 TC loads all ran fine...

I have two Kimber Stainless Target IIs that started off as .38 Super and 10mm... Had the .38 Super for many years before deciding to get a 10mm not realizing that all I needed was a barrel for the Super...  They both have been excellent shooters right out of the box.

https://singleactions.proboards.com/thread/24056/all-1911

The fit and finish of this Long Slide is flawless...super tight fit of all parts and the finish is super smooth. Have no doubt it will shoot as good as the Target IIs do.

DW make a NICE gun.  Just bought my first one last year this time. It is a Guardian in .38 Super.  Would like a Bruin 10mm LS but they are well over double the price of the Kimber I just bought.
