Gunsmithing / Re: V2 Recoil Damper

I have been looking a little deeper into this damper system and they make some amazing claims.

Here is a video of them shooting a standard Dan Wesson 45 ACP with a 460 Rowland barrel and with their damper installed.

First he shoots standard 45 ACP rounds followed by 460 Rowland rounds from the same magazine.  He is using a 16# spring with the damper.

I shoot a Colt 1911 converted to 460 Rowland with a comp and a 22# spring.  Recoil is comparable to a "Hot" 10mm load in a standard 1911.

They have a lot of videos and most are very amatuerish.

What do you guys think?

I called the retailer and found out that they work on all 5" and 6" 1911 and customers are using them on 10mm and also other calibers.

The system is not cheap.

I agree.

I did not post their website as I found it not very informative.  The instalation video was the best part.

Gunsmithing / V2 Recoil Damper

I saw this post over at S&W.

Has anyone here tried it in a 460?  Might it have some use in the 10mm pistols?

Pricing on the Drake is up there as a competition piece.  It will be interesting to see see if the 10mm version makes it to market here.

I agree, the Drake and the Redback are both built as high end competition firearms and priced accordingly.

The Drake was originally just going to be a 40 S&W as that caliber is very popular in European Competitions.  I think they brought out the 9mm for the U.S. market.  I do not know how popular a high end 10mm would be in Europe, I know their market is quite a bit different from ours.

The importer of the Drake told me that the factory people in Switzerland are telling them that the Drakes are turning out sub 1 1/2" groups at 50 meters.

On the other end of the spectrum it is rumored that Phoenix Arms is going to start chambering their Drake in 10mm in the future.

I own one of their Redbacks and have handled one of the Drakes.  I have a Drake in 9mm coming.  Phoenix makes about the nicest handguns available in my opinion.

There already is a 41 Auto Mag Pistol caliber which tops the 10mm Mag.

I doubt that the any Auto Mags will ever be built with a different sized case head than the 45 ACP/308/30.06 that is used now.

That is an exceptionally nice variant with the 8" bull and vented rib.  I'm always amazed at the different versions of Automags made.  I remember the Gun Digest articles from the 70s which showed a number of the unique configurations.  I didn't realize there were so many more until seeing the ones you and Tony are highlighting here.

Got the email from Patrick that my new one is now on its way.  Can't wait.

That one is rarer than rare, it's the only one Lee Jurras made.  The serial number is "JURRAS".

Here is a group of AMP's all made by Patrick's new company.

Here is a Covina marked 41 AMP.  It is hard to see.  Max Gera put the scope rings on it.

I asked Jurras why they were marked 41 AMP and he said it was a factory mistake.  Others say Harry Sanford did it on purpose because Jurras stuck him with 65 each - 41 JMP Custom 100 barrels that Jurras never paid for because they did not sell.

The new Pythons and Anacondas are really very nice revolvers.

Colt it finally doing thing right and I hope it continues.
Have you compared them to the Ruger revolvers?

I have had probably 6 or 7 Ruger revolvers through the years and I have sold them all.

I have over 20 Smiths and I do not ever remember selling a single one.  I am no fan of Rugers.

What they are trying to do is make it manditory that a 4473 Form be filled out for every gun transaction.

Right now I can sell you a firearm in a face to face transaction without any paper work.  They want to make it manditory that every transfer go through a Dealer with a FFL to make it legal.

This would hold true for you to receive a firearm from your Father or if you wanted to give a firearm to your son or daughter.
