I have a old 2 quart cast iron pot that I bought at a flea market.  I use it for smelting over a propane stove.  Zero problem with it except it?s darned heavy even half filled with lead.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Winchester 180gr bonded Defender

I decided to necro-post on my thread. I found a local fun-store with the 180gr Bonded Defender in stock @$38/20 and purchased a couple boxes. Accuracy seems good, they function thru my 5? 1911 and as an added bonus the 3? revolver doesn?t pull the bullets with recoil.

At nearly $2 each I fired three out of each gun over my chrono, the 5? hit 1240fps and the 3? GP was 1180fps.  These may well become the answer to ?what?s in your chamber!?.

Interesting load.  Thanks for sharing.

It?s interesting that here in WV Sportsman?s Warehouse has a store in Morgantown and in early 2021 Cabelas/Bass Pro started building a small store about 5 miles away.   It?s now complete and I guess a direct competitor.

If I?m going to carry a boutique load then I?ll just carry my own handloads.  My load with the 180gr Gold Dot over BE-86 hits 1,250 from my 1911 and 1,205 out of my 3? GP-100.  I?d really like to see Speer load the 180gr GD to an honest 1,200fps as that seems to be my sweet spot for controllability.
The Winchester load qualifies as ?purt-near?.

Unfortunately right now they are all unobtainium so I guess it?s a moot point.

My Googlefu must be weak, thanks!

Pity it didn?t quite make 1,200fps out of a G20.

Has anyone ever seen much less tested this round?

It kinda checks all my boxes except ?available?.   ;D

General Discussion / Re: 10mm Long Guns

I?d love a Mini-14 / M1 Carbine-ish 10mm rifle.  A levergun in a rimless cartridge is in my mind the same heresy as seven shot revolvers or single trigger SxS shotguns. But a decent magazine fed semiauto would be a useful thing of beauty.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: 10mm Cast Bullet 220gr Question

I have the NOE mold for a WFN 200gr bullet that both my Sr1911 and GP100 shoot well at 950fps to 1200fps depend on how much of what powder is between primer and bullet base.  I keep different loads in plastic boxes with meticulous sticky pad labels as to which one is inside.

Then I find loose cartridges or moonclipped cartridges or a magazine in a shooting bag and can't for the life of me remember what load it is.  :))

I pretty much recently bought the 170gr six cavity Lee mold to use for targets over a mild load and reserve the 200gr for more GeeWhiz!  That should preserve my sanity and 30gr of lead alloy per shot.
The Lee bullet isn't as accurate as the NOE but it serves well enough to hit 8" plates at 25 yards or Pepper Poppers out to fifty.

Merry Christmas to all!
Hoping 2021 is less of a train wreck.

Well I wasn't impressed with Cabela's after they were acquired, I bet Sportsman's Warehouse will fare even less well.  SW had bought out the mostly failed Sports Afield (Dick's subsidiary) chain of stores around here and were the only real competitor to Bass Pro / Cabela's.
So much for that...

10mm Hunting / Re: Why no hot hard cast for self defense
December 11 2020 09:30:17 PM MST
If by year 8 of the apocalypse I've used up all my jhp ammo and pried the wheel weights off every abandoned car in walking distance I'll probably be perfectly happy toting my Ruger 10mm revolver loaded with 200gr NOE bullets over home made fffg powder, lit by recycled primers with toy cap priming mix.

Until then I'll carry my SIG factory or Gold Dot handloads.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Bullet seated too deep
November 08 2020 08:53:33 PM MST
Everyone who reloads needs a kinetic bullet puller.  It's the reloader's eraser. ;)

As I age I've gotten to the point I'll throw away cartridges that are suspect/old/damaged instead of taking the time to fool around with them.  I was probably going to shoot it at a target anyway as the zombie Cuban invasion from Mars has been delayed and I have way more ammo than guns so it's more economical to not blow up a gun in my delicate little paws near my beautiful face.
