Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Longshot and 155 XTP

Iam just guessing here but I was under the impression that longshot was a slow burning powder usually used for heavier bullets and that longshot would have a lot of unbent powder left in the barrel?

It is, you're right. BUT, even if it is not terribly efficient, it makes up for it with sheer velocity.

Range reports / Re: Glock 29 success

I carry my 29 every day and I love it! 95% of the energy I get from my 20 and 25 rounds available with just an extra magazine.

I can only offer my own experience with my G29 and G20 and reloading 10mm with Hodgdon Longshot, but the difference in velocity is right at 40 fps. My carry/HD load is a 180gr XTP that comes out of my G20 at 1260 fps (~630 ft-lbs of muzzle energy). The same ammo shot in my 29 comes out right at 1225 fps.

For a $150-200 investment, I don't really think that 40 fps is worth it. Spend the money on some spare mags and some extra full-power 10mm ammo.

My Gen 3 G20 has been flawless with everything I've put through it except for one of my reloads (which was overpressure anyway). I've even got a couple thousand rounds of Winchester White Box 165gr .40S&W through it with a KKM conversion barrel. That is even coupled with a 24lb ISMI recoil spring on a Lone Wolf guide rod.

Most all my reloads were 9.8gr Longshot (or less) in new Starline brass with CCI no. 300 LPPs.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Using Longshot With 180XTP's?

My Hodgdon manual says that 8.5gr is the starting charge for Longshot and 180gr jacketed hollow points. Any reason you're loading under the starting charge? My usual carry load is 9.8gr (over book max by .3gr) with the 180gr XTPs.

My KKM conversion barrel shoots any .40 I've ever found.  Even with the higher power spring I use for hot 10mm, the fairly weak Winchester White Box .40 fires just fine.

General Discussion / Re: 357 Magnum SABOT project

That looks really cool! I've always wanted to play with sabots in 10mm, .45, and especially 20ga.  Where do you get your plastic inserts?

Can a g21 mag be modified to 10mm?

Not without redesigning the entire mag and changing out a bunch of parts.

Luckily, a G21 mag fits perfectly in a G20 frame, so there's no reason to convert magazines.

Suck it, guys :D

Their recoil code is either non existent, or turned way down.  I literally pointed to the center and triple clicked.  Fun game, but somewhat poorly written.  The Russians should stick to making Nazi killing machines.

Just another reminder to be careful with hot loads in the Deltas.  In my stock Glock 20 barrel, I got up to 10.2gr (this is over max FYI) and still didn't have any smilies or flattened primers.  Then again, 9.0gr only got me to 1200fps in the 4.6" barrel.

I got about the same fps in my 20SF as you (1190), but started seeing changes in the primers at 9.2 gr. What velocity did you get from 10.2 gr? Just curious, I never went above the 9.2.

At 10.2gr, I was right at 1290-1300 fps, but I decided it was too hot and just a slight overcharge could be not fun.  Around 10.0 I averaged 1262, 9.8 to 10.0 were nearly identical, and going down .2gr every time, I lost about 20-30 fps each time.

It might be of interest to note that I'm using CCI 300 primers, and I understand that they are a little more stout than some others.

Sent them an email asking where I could purchase some of their new brass.  Got this.

...

Well that stinks for us.  Then again, having a year of factory tests should help to establish their reputation.

Just for an example I got smileys with 9.0 gr of Longshot behind 180 XTPs in my Colt Delta. Primers were WLPs as I remember. Chrono avg ~ 1260 fps.

Man, I wish more agencies shot the 10.  It would mean cheaper ammo for me!  :P

If that's true, something is wrong with your setup, probably a worn or badly shaped extractor. A properly functioning 20 in good condition will not do that. IMO, if you're having extractor issues with 40 S&W brass, you're on the verge of having issues with 10mm brass as well.

Gun is practically brand new, so I'm pretty sure it's not a worn extractor.  I don't have any issues shooting .40 out of a .40S&W conversion barrel, and I've never had any issues shooting 10mm out of the stock barrel, just trying .40 out of the 10mm barrel.

I've seen lots of other people have issues shooting .40 out of a completely stock glock 20, so I'm pretty sure my experience isn't out of the ordinary.  That's why I suggested not relying on it to work properly for everyone.
