Reloading / Re: Primer availability
May 19 2022 09:10:33 PM MDT
Back in February, I made a 3700 mile road trip from Washington to Arizona and back.  I found primers in Twin Falls, ID and in Yuma, AZ.  Both places were $100 per 1000 for CCI SPP.  Then last week finally saw Federal SPP locally for $90 per 1000, but limited to 200 per day.  Went back 2 days in a row to get my limit, then they were gone.

Finally was able to score a can of Accurate #9 and loaded up 10 different loads using Hornady XTPs in 180 grain and some 220 grain RMR plated bullets.

Very pleased with the results and was able to achieve 1" 5-shot groups at 25 yards.

Did a video of the trip for my YouTube channel...

I was looking for a holster option for the M&P 10mm and choices were limited due to the high sights. I had a Fobus paddle holster  for the HK USP .40 that I had
and it works fine for the M&P 10mm.

Unless you are really looking to run an optic and co-witness, just swap out those goofy tall things with a set of meprolight tru dot night sights. Then any MP 45 holster should fit it.
I tried to CCW a Glock Gen 5 G19 MOS with a red dot and the tall co-witness sights.  They are ridiculous and snag on everything.  Evaluating the XD-M Elite 3.8" OSP 10mm with a Vortex Venom red dot on it now.  No more snag sights for me.

I was surprised as well...

I picked up the Elite 3.8" as a candidate as my main carry pistol for the town and the woods.  Took it to the range and did a comparison between it and my G29 and created a YT video.

Was waiting on the red dot plate to install my Vortex Venom and thought I'd send it back for frame finish flaws.  Supposedly a 2-4 week repair.  Sent back first week in December, so 7 weeks and counting.

Getting concerned.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Polymer80 PF45 frame kits

I built a G23 version, took it to the range, and it went full-auto burst and the frame cracked.  Salvaged the parts for my other Glocks and decided to not try that again.

While I was building it, I discovered that I could have built a 10 mm version and was going to build one next, until reality happened.

Mine arrived at my FFL Friday.  Hoping to pick it up Tuesday.  Ordered from Gunbroker for $549.  Hoping to use it as my new CCW in town and the woods.  Replacing a G29 and a couple of G23s.

My goal is to reduce the number of platforms I use for personal defense.  My only two carry guns will be the XD-M and my P365.

I can carry full power loads in the woods for critters, and regular .40 S&W power loads in town.

Could be a brilliant do-it-all answer, or a pistol that doesn't do anything well.

I joined the GSSF several years back for the discounts.  Upgraded to a lifetime family membership for myself and my children when it came out.  But, there is only one match within 300 miles of my home and I have consistently been out of the country when it occurs.  Until this year.  When it was cancelled.

I have always said if I get to finally shoot a match, I will shoot what I carry, which is a G29 with a +2 pearce.

I believe you're thinking of the large GSSF outdoor matches.  Those are few and far between and the nearest one to me is about 300 miles.

The smaller indoor matches are much more plentiful.  There are two within 75 miles of me held every month, and I live in the middle of nowhere.

When I bought my G29 4 years ago, I was amazed at how accurate it was and how well it handled warmer loads.

I was at a local gun shop/range and they said I should try my hand at their monthly indoor GSSF match.  My G29 was the only Glock I owned at the time, so it was what I showed up with for my first match.

They chuckled and said I should probably have gone with the G19 or G34.

I shot the next three matches with a stock G29 and my watered down reloads of 5.7 grains of Unique and 180gr Hornady XTPs.  I ended up winning my class.

I got hooked on GSSF and retired the G29 to woods duty only, and tried a G19, then a G35.  Still haven't got a perfect 500, but have gotten a few in the 490's.

Anyone else used the G29 or G20 for GSSF?

I try not to get too emotionally involved in the bear debate.  Most of my outdoor activity is outside of the Grizzly zone.  We have lots of black bears, but they are rather small compared to the ones out East, oddly enough.  I do occasionally go into grizzly country, and I bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in .45 Colt.  I cast my own 300 grain bullets for that application and load them hot.  It literally hurts to shoot and I have to wear a glove when doing load development.

For 99% of my carry needs in wolf, black bear, and cougar country, my G29 with a 4.5" KKM barrel, Dawson sights, and X-Grip adapter is absolutely perfect.

General Discussion / Re: Introductions

Just joined due to a link on Cast Boolits forum saying there was a new forum for 10mm enthusiasts.  Came here and realized that it was 8 years old and I had fallen victim to another zombie thread, lol.

Oh well, looks like a good forum, anyways.

I have only one 10mm, a Glock G29 used for carry in the mountains of Idaho.  Used it for GSSF for a year or so before getting a G35.  Obviously I reload for 10mm, and also cast my own bullets.

Looks like lots of great info here.  I've never been a speed freak or wanted to push 10mm to the limits, but the weak sauce factory stuff at ridiculous prices necessitated reloading for it.

Looks like a great forum!
