Rifles / Re: Lever Gun for general purpose
June 19 2023 12:04:22 PM MDT
I have had several lever actions in several different rifle calibers. I wanted one in a handgun caliber and since my favorite revolver caliber is .41magnum I started looking for one. It took me 5 years but I finally found a Henry in .41mag and it is a beautiful gun that shoots as good as it looks. I have yet to take a whitetail with it but have dispatched several large feral hogs here in Texas.

Cracker,
Like you I love my 10mm's. I do however have a question. I also have a Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup, but noticed yours is considered "Enhanced". What is the difference that classifies it as being "enhanced". Enquiring Minds Want to Know!!!
Thanks for the clarification in advance!

Handguns / Handgun Hunting
August 30 2020 05:28:36 PM MDT
I've been handgun hunting for over 40 years with everything from a .22 to a .454 Casull. They all have their pros and cons. 20 years ago I stumbled across the .41mag and have loved the round since. I've taken everything from a book Fallow Deer to 320lb Texas hog with it. I love to handload and shoot the gun but my favorite hunting load is the Winchester 240gr Platinum Tip. The accuracy out of my stainless Ruger Redhawk 7.5" is amazing. Top that with a 2X Leopold Pistol Scope and it is a potent hunting firearm. I always wanted a 4" version of the same gun but the shortest available at the time was the 5.5". I found one at a reasonable price and cut and re-crowned the barrel to 4". I carry that gun in a across the chest holster anytime I am in the woods. It too loves the Winchester load.
I purchased my first 10mm about 15 years ago when I shot and subsequently purchased a buddies Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup. I was sold on the 10mm and now own 2 others. A S&W 1066 and a Springfield XDM-10 4.5. They shoot great and I recently purchased a set of dies for my Dillon Square Deal B. I recently had a birthday where I received 1000 once fired cases and two 250ct boxes of 150gr Norma JHPs and one 250ct box of 135gr Norma JHPs. I have been reading some of the reloading information in this and a couple of other forums and since I already have Blue Dot and Unique I will probably try them first. I did not buy the 10mm's for hunting, at least not 4 legged animals, but I am not opposed to doing so. If I do I will more than likely use bullets in the 180+gr range. I have several boxes of Factory ammo with those grain weights that are very accurate.
What calibers/guns do you prefer hunting with?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: 10mm and Blue Dot
August 30 2020 04:20:16 PM MDT
Alabusa,
Thanks for the information on the Blue Dot. This is my first post in a 10mm forum, but not my first time to reload. I have been reloading for over 25 years, but just started reloading the 10mm. I have three of them. A Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup, S&W 1066 and a Springfield XDM-10 4.5. I have been shooting the Colt and S&W for years but just picked up the Springfield about 6 months ago. I had a birthday 8/26 and received 1000 once fired cases and 2 boxes of 250ea. Nosler 150gr JHP and 1 box Nosler 135gr JHP that I want to work up some loads for. I have been looking for some 180's which is what my factory loads are. I use a Dillon Square Deal B for my handgun loads and a RCBS Single Stage Rock Chucker for my rifle calibers.
