Keep in mind that S&W is making a move of their plastic gun manufacturing to WV or someplace like that, and all the equipment to make those M&Ps, long and short, might just be waiting on the plant to be built!

They can't build the things out in a bare parking lot, right?

While it might be frustrating, you have to keep the whole picture in mind, the move to a gun-friendly state has of course, been a big deal for all involved. You can't really expect them to quit making guns/magazines/etc. one and and pick up production the next day in another state. Things just don't work that way.

I found this blurb on FB this morning, and thought someone, somewhere, would like to know. I have a 617 already, so I'm not in the market, anyway, but I'd guess someone wants one.

I stole this from another website, not too much info on it at present, but it appears to be a 15 round 320 in 10mm. I have no comments, since I have zero experience with the 320 in any form or fashion.

If you're shopping RIA take a look at the Big Rock model 52000.  16+1 w/ a 6" barrel but it's heavy.  Almost 4lbs loaded (weight does calm the recoil a bit.)   The fiber optic sites, longer barrel, and rail makes it a little difficult finding a holster.

I have the single-stack version. The only over-the-counter holster I've found to fit it is a Fobus, but I dunno if I'd trust it anywhere except on the range. I really am not a fan of plastic holsters, but it was cheap and more important, it fit the gun.

Handguns / Re: Revisiting the .38 Super

Since the barrel came in a couple of weeks ago, I've been shooting the "new" .38 Super a fair amount. At this point, with 250 rounds downrange, I've had zero malfunctions of any sort (wouldn't expect any with RN bullets), zero extraction issues, and danged if it doesn't shoot better than the 9mm barrel it came with originally. All things considered, it's just a wonderful pistol.

I am running a 12.5lb spring in it, and the brass just sorta rolls off my right shoulder and drops in a neat pile about 5 feet back at the 4 o'clock position (in 9mm, it does the same thing, only a foot closer to me). I have yet to lose a single piece of brass, either (all new PMC), and some old handloads I had from my Colt Super from the waybackwhens. It's just one heckuva nice pistol now (as it was as a 9mm), and seems to be flawless.

I think I've got a real winner here. Fun to shoot, almost recoil-free, and smooth as glass. And I can always swap it back to 9mm when .38 Super ammo is difficult to find.

I got my .38 Super barrel from Barsto today, it plugged right into the slide just fine, but the bushing was too tight and wouldn't fit the slide (and it was really tight to the barrel, too). No matter, really, as it's a good fit on the Springfield bushing, only a couple thousandths "loose" on the new barrel. It should shoot pretty good, when it warms up a bit, I'll find out!

I've been really looking forward to the swapover from 9mm to .38 Super. I'd stocked up on magazines and some factory PMC stuff that is loaded pretty mildly (1100fps, according to the box end), it should be okay to run it with the 12.5lb. spring I was already running in the 9mm. I DO have a variety of spring weights to change it over if it seems to beat up the slide, or sling brass into West Virginia. The extractor fit seems to work okay, working some ammo thru the action seemed to work smoothly and decisively. I don't think I'll have any problems with the "new" gun at all. ;D

I just got an email that my barrel is on it's way, if FedEx doesn't lose it somewhere in the process. I'm not a fan of FedEx, the local driver just dumps stuff on the doorstep instead of knocking on the door, which leaves the porch pirates an open field. Happily enough, I'm at home most of the time, so the pirates don't get much of a chance at my "stuff". According to the email, I should have it in a couple of days. We'll see.

Barsto must be pretty busy, the website quoted 12-14 weeks, and now it's on week 18................

Find the concern over losing a "nice 1911" to be pretty common. However, we've carried Custom 1911s as well as semi-custom and factory versions for many years and always figured if a given gun save our bacon it had earned its' keep; what ever happened to it after that we could deal with. Over the years we dabbled with Sigs, Berettas, and even a few Glocks, but always returned to the 1911 with which we felt comfortable and competent. Our "rotation" has been limited to an assortment of 1911 pistols of assorted calibers. For us simple is better; one manual of arms no matter which gun you are carrying. As we've gotten older, the aluminum framed guns are our preferred carry pieces, especially CCOs.

Louisville is about as "woke" as anyplace in Kentucky can possibly get, that's why I moved out of the place. Locally, my new town is much more practical, but Louisville is a cesspool of liberal dumbassery, and I'm not leaving a good pistol in their filthy mitts. Besides, I know some of their officers, some of whom oughta be locked up along with the more obvious rascals. Louisville has changed remarkably in the years I lived there, and not for the better, it is reviled all across the state. Lexington isn't any better, really, it's just a smaller cesspool of the same smelly content. I'm glad I moved away from the place.
It has always been messed up, but the prior and current "mayors" have utterly ruined the place for decent citizens. I wouldn't be too upset if the Air Force used it as a bombing range.

I had to go to the "big city" today, thankfully in the better part of town, without the egregious rascals that normally infest Louisville (one of the top 20 cities for high murder rates this year). I keep an S&W M&P 9mm with me whenever I go up there to that miserable place. It holds 18 rounds, of course, and I keep some spare magazines handy, too.

I'd much rather carry one of my good 1911s, but if I had to use it, and lose it, I'd rather lose a plastic tool rather than a fine 1911. Besides, it works well, and shoots "okay, I guess", it's no tackdriver, but it ain't awful, it's just a tool. I do keep good ammo in it, at least.

I just got word that my barrel should be done by the end of the week. ;D ;D I am really looking forward to getting it up and running.

I haven't checked Sierra's offerings in years, but they used to offer a 190 gr. jacketed bullet that looks like a HP without the "hollow", I think they called it a Tournament Master, or something like that. I bought some back then and loaded them up, but still haven't gotten around to shooting them. They might (MIGHT) do what you're asking, as they will open up if they're going fast enough.

General Discussion / Federal and S&W's new .30 Super

From what I can gather, this thing is about like a warm-loaded .32 H&R Magnum, or maybe the .30 Luger, and will be available in a Nighthawk President or a couple of S&W pistols, an EZ variant and the Shield Plus. It will hold two more rounds in the EZ compared to 9mm rounds, and two more rounds over the 9mm in the Nighthawk.  I don't know about the Shield Plus.

I am willing to be impressed, but it's got to show me more than a couple of rounds in guns with better choices. As Elmer Keith once said about the new 8mm Remington Magnum "What the hell is it good FOR?"

It's going to be marketed to old timers with arthritis and women, which are a good market niche for the little round, I guess. I think I'm gonna pass on it, personally.

I'd bet a comped 10mm would be pretty cool though. Although the long slide Bruin seems to help with recoil considerably I'd bet ports would help even more.

I had a Hienie compensated barrel on my Delta Elite back in the day, it was a real hoot to shoot, especially with hot-loaded 135gr. Noslers and a bucketload of AA#7 powder behind them.   With 20gr. SWCs, it was about  like a .45 with 200gr. SWCs, which I used in my .45s, but those light bullets with a huge bunch of powder behind them were a real fun load to shoot. I'd put a Clark scope mount (the one that replaced the left grip) on the pistol with a 2X Tasco, and the gun had very little muzzle flip to it. Like I said, it was a real hoot to shoot. I shouldn't have sold it, it was a real blast.

I'm still patiently waiting on my Barsto, but they DID say it that they were running 12-14 weeks, and it's just now been 12 weeks. Who knows, it might be longer due to the holidays, Covid, shipping woes, etc.  I've accumulated about 400 rounds of new PMC ammo, some spare magazines, and enough springs to work out which ones will be needed to avoid beating the frame and slide up (not that it would be very bad in any case). I've still got some of my old handloads, too.

The Range Officer pistol I'm using as a basis is a very good pistol, and is just now starting to "come around" to shooting to it's abilities. It's a really fun gun to shoot and I'm looking forward to that.
