I can see why you were not wowed with Longshot!
All of my older data shows 9.4 of longshot with a 180gr XTP to be max.
I have always loaded my G40 with 9.0-9.2 and it has been great.

Because of the smaller handling 3.8 I loaded some down to 8.8 and it was just a bit milder but not enough to load separately for the XDM.

I would add for your consideration the Sig P320 X-Ten.

Sig makes a great gun, it is optics ready if you want to go that way and has a lot of features.
if it wasn't for my chest holster and extra mags I would sell my G40 and buy one myself.

I did the exact same thing a few months ago.
I had a G29 that I carried in the woods on my hog hunting land. It was handy if I ran into a hog while scouting, riding ATV or filling feeders.

It also served as a CCW driving to and from camp and when I was sleeping or hanging out in our little camper. There is no one around for a long way.
It was a good gun but never warmed to it and after reading a side by side comparison in a Gun mag, I sold the G29 and bought the XDM Elite 3.8 also in 10mm.

I liked it first time I shot it. It seemed to fill my hand better and have less recoil.

I had a Burris FF# in the safe so I ordered the plate and installed it.

Very accurate with Handloaded 180 gr Hornady XTP's!

I probably wouldn't be shooting there but they would not be going through my range bag without a warrant.
They would be welcome to observe me shooting and punish me accordingly if they caught me with steel ammo but that would be it.

They have some good prices right now!

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: G29 vs SA 3.8

I have a G40 I hunt pigs with and I have had a G29 for a pretty good while.
I used it as a CCW in and on the way to the woods when scouting or cutting trails, and it is comforting in the camper at night.

I never loved it though and bought the 3.8 Elite and sold the G29.

I really like the SA. It points better and fits my hand even with the magwell in place.

I have been using them for a long time. I didn't think I needed one till I took a defensive pistol class and they would "holler, break, hydrate, reload and get back on the line" I wore my fingers out.

I like them for 1911 too. Those sharp magazine lips will make your fingers sore if you are loading and shooting a lot at once.

I took my new XDM to the outdoor range where I had a three sided shooting bay to myself. I set up some IDPA cardboard targets and gave the gun a try.

I had Hornady XTP and HAP 180's loaded with Longshot. I also had some Xtreme Bullets 180 JHP and also some Everglade Bullets 180 JHP. I had some XTP's with Blue Dot also.
First impressions were good. The XDM fit my hand much better than the G29 I just sold. My reloads were all around 1200 fps and I thought the recoil was pretty good, stout but fun to shoot.
For now I stayed with the iron sights as the purpose of this gun is CCW to and from my hunting land and as a woods carry gun while filling pig feeders or scouting or general hunting land work.

My smaller hands and the magwell got along well and I plan to leave it just like it is.
The  round rear sight took me a little bit to adjust to as I was shooting a little low to start with but I got used to it and was able to get good hits out to 25 yards which is the best I can do with old eyes.
I really like this gun much better than the G29 but the G40 will still be my hunting gun.

Local range runs GSSF three weekends a month. I shoot them sometimes just for a random chance to win a gun.

This month, just for fun, they are running a special challenge only for G29.G30 and G37. I plan to shoot my G29 which I usually carry when I am at my pig hunting land.

I took it to the range the other day and shot my hunting loads with a 180 XTP. Pretty stout in that little gun. I had some I had loaded lighter and they were better to target shoot with.
I may drop down even more in Longshot powder to try to get a softer shooting round for this match, should be fun.
The course this month has a 15 yard max so I practiced at that distance. G29 is pretty dang accurate!

10mm Hunting / Re: shooting sticks?

I have a pair of cross sticks I made for shooting from sitting or knealing. There is a cut of nail in the bottom so they will  not slip in dirt.
I have a primos stick also but have not used it for pistol yet.

Actually what I have done the most of for years is to cut a sturdy sapling with a Y in it. I always have ratchet clippers in my pack and it just takes a minute to make one. If I am walking and stalking I will cut it to lenth and use as a walking stick and then a shooting stick of the correct height for a standing shot.

I cut it shorter if I am going to be sitting.

I am sorry I am just now seeing this and you probably have a holster by now but just in case, I have two kydex holsters for my G20 from KT-Mech. One without a light and one for a TLR-1.
They make a nice holster at a really good price and get it to you pretty quick.

I got to use the GS Holster for several months and I really like it. I think it is a great value for the money.

I started out wearing it lower like in the picture but since have decided I like it to ride higher on my chest. Right on my breastbone. It stays out of the way no matter what I am doing but very convenient to reach when sitting in a stand or walking.

I caught myself on trail cam checking feeders.
