10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Delta Elite For Custom Build
September 09 2015 01:08:47 AM MDT
I was not aware that barsto would build the complete gun.  When I talked to them in 1990 they did not.

They referred me to where the LAPD swat team had all of there guns done.

Bill Capone owned kings gun works in Glendale, ca.

I probably have the only 10mm he did as he saw no need for that much power then.

Told him I wanted a hunting capable gun.

Have not looked much at this kind of sites since.

Interesting the technical and style changes that have occurred.

I may have to post pictures of my old delta elite gold cup if anyone likes older builds....

I like some of the mods allowing a higher grip position.  Good idea.

I ended up with a 22 or 23 pound wolf square wire spring to stop the too light of slide from hammering the gun even with protectors inside.

I found I liked the arched smith and Alexander mainspring housing for snap shooting more than the straight ones I see most use.

I am not recommending anyone exceed any published reloading info but I was testing various loads in my 1990 delta elite gold cup after having kings gun works do considerable mods to the gun brand new.

Worked up 1,000 new starline brass with various loads of unique.  Started at 6 grains then 7.5 then 9.0 which is probably around the buffalo bore loading.

Flattens the head stamps a bit.  No bulges.

Maybe the brass itself is a factor in the smilies?

Cannot imagine anything the smith did changing this but I have limited knowledge.

did not install the barsto barrel I considered.

Gun is amazingly accurate,  different barrel  bushing.  At the range I shot at the 100 yard side which had a 12"x12" hanging plate which I hit seven shots in a row with some lead wad cutters I had made up.

Geez.  Close enough for me.

Sorry to digress.  But I recovered 832 empties out of the 1,000 fired and no smilies

I think I have four boxes here somewhere.

Not high impulse  for sure.  But no flash in a dark room.

The gel test speaks for itself.

Is this the same Bob as on KTMtalk? Welcome to the forum!

Those buffalo bore loads - if it was me, I'd fire the first few with the magazine removed from the gun. This way if you do get a case blowout, the gas can escape down the mag well.

Since you're a novice at this, you might seriously consider Accurate No.9 instead of Longshot, just because it's harder to get into trouble with #9. It's a low flash powder, and will deliver high velocity without as much pressure.

I better clarify something here - DO NOT just take someone's hot load data and try to duplicate it. You have to work up from a lower powder charge, carefully, and watch for pressure signs as you go. Be careful!

Yes thats me.  I worked up my 10 and 9 and 308 loads long ago. Thanks for the info.  So for less pressure and low flash the accurate #9 is better than the longshot?   Lots of great accuracy reports to the longshot.  How's the accurate for accuracy.

My ten will hit a 12x12 plate at 100 yards from a bench.  Thinking about a compact 10mm and a s&w 1026

I have two of the left barrel.  Looks like i have a good throwaway if I was a bad guy.  Haha.

Have not fired the buffalo bore yet.

I am a slow guy.  took me 22 years to pick this up after kings gun works redid it new for me in 1991.  Time to make it go again.

Thanks guys.

I am a novice here and really appreciate the info.

The barrel differences I have heard of  on other websites so I have a little background on this.

To avoid the smileys you mention a ramped barrel.  What is on my delta elite gold cup now?

Thanks in advance. Looking for some longshot powder now.

I will probably not exceed the 9 grains anyway.

Unless I pick up a 1026 or a glock

The long shot is low flash from what I am reading?

What charge gets the equivalent power using the 180's and starline brass?

Any difference in results using different large pistol primers?

Thanks.  I knew there would be experts 20 years after I bought my 10mm colt.

And I was correct.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Buffalo bore loads
January 20 2013 03:19:19 PM MST
Not to lose buffalo bore any business as I bought 100 rounds of their 783 foot pound loaded ammo but I find I have 500 rounds of empty starline brass and 500 rounds of the Speer 180 grain bullets they used and would love to purchase some equivalent powder to load my own.

They mentioned flash suppression in their loads.  Graphite?

Any help on an equivalent loading would be nice.  I did write to them and ask to purchase a small qty but no response.  Duh.....

Anyone get similar energy and velocity in a 5 inch barrel?

Yes.  Started at the top of the chart.  9 grains of unique.  No chrono.  Some primer flattening but headstamp ok.

Hit a 12"x12" hanging plate at 100 yards 7 out of seven shots from a bench with a supported hold.  Open sights.

Colt 10mm gold cup delta elite with a beautiful trigger and good bushing on a stock colt barrel.

I was surprised.  My reloads.  Dillon 550b.

Starline brass
