Miscellaneous 10mm Firearms / Re: Smith & Wesson FPC

Ten2, everyone's situation and intended use varies but while I want a 10mm pistol carbine that in some way can become compact for travel or storage, I also want one which can be fired, if needed, without any reconfiguration.

That was my biggest non starter with the S&W.

As of today I haven't made a purchase; however, the Ruger LC is attractive to me given that the stock folds to reduce the overall size but the weapons can still be fired without unfolding the stock or any other reconfiguration.  And, yes I'm fully aware of the "legal" restrictions over minimum length but if you're in the mountains/fishing and facing a charging grizzly I think that might not matter.

Again, I'm not bad mouthing the S&W nor any other PCC but you need to look at each offering to see which one best fits your needs.

I've briefly looked at the new S&W FPC and came away with mixed feelings.

Later I did find this review online which is pretty critical of the firearm but points several issues that I also saw.   Not to say it's bad but good to see several reviews before you purchase anything.

Hope this link works and helps with your choice.

Miscellaneous 10mm Firearms / Re: Ruger LC Carbine

Thanks John for the info.

I don't anticipate any shooting beyond short ranges, say 100 to 125 yards but mostly focused on 25 to 75 yards.

I'm an old iron sight guy but a red dot does appeal to me if I can find one that will co-witness with the irons sights.   I have a couple on hand which I'm planning to try out.   But if anyone has one they are currently using that meets this need let me know.

I'm also working on a DIY spare magazine carrier to mount on the short rail in front of the trigger.

One thing that I want to look at is the compatability and comfort of the folding stock and by the manual it is easy to replace.   Has anyone replace it?

One question that I can't find any info on is how the barrel is mounted and if it is easliy removed or replaced if needed?

Just a few thoughts if anyone can comment it would be appreciated.

Miscellaneous 10mm Firearms / Ruger LC Carbine

After spending a significant amount of time evaluating 10mm carbines offerings I've focused on acquiring the Ruger LC Carbine.   I'm wondering if anyone here has one and could provide feedback on your likes and dislikes?   Or if you looked at it and dismissed it for a different brand?

My primary use is for a camp and backpacking weapon against four legged predators like bears and cougars, occasional hunting and use as a truck gun for personal defense.  I also carry a Glock 20 so the Ruger LC will compliment that weapon especially since it uses the same Glock magazines.

Also interested in any upgrades or mods anyone has done?

Off topic area / Vietnam Veterans Day, March 29th
March 28 2025 10:47:42 PM MDT
Once again this year, on March 29th, we remember and honor all our Vietnam Era Veterans.

The first advisors arrived in Vietnam on November 1, 1955 and established the Military Assistance Advisory Group - Vietnam (MAAG-V).   Over the next decade the forces grew incrementally and by 1965 expanded with the full deployment of combat units.  Many got sent to Vietnam for their high school senior trip!

The last personnel were redeployed from Vietnam and other locations in SEA in 1975.

This year, 2025, marks 70 years since the first personnel were deployed to Vietnam and 50 years since the last units redeployed!

Those who served during the Vietnam War were born between 1918 and 1960.   Today, our youngest living Vietnam Veterans are around 65 whereas the majority of the living veterans are in their late 70s to late 90s.   It is estimated that approximately 400 Vietnam veterans are dying each day.

If you know a Vietnam Veteran please thank them for their service to the Republic and more importantly say "Welcome Home!"

General Discussion / Re: Introductions
March 28 2025 10:44:29 PM MDT
Good Day, I'm a new, old guy in that I folllowed this forum back in the day without ever registering and glad to see it's re-emergence.  By way of introduction, I'm an old retired military veteran from the Vietnam era and have been carrying and shooting 10mm since Glock introduced their model 20.  Mainly used for bear and cougar defense here in northwest Wyoming.  I'm in the process of acquiring and outfitting a Ruger LC Carbine in 10mm and interested in other member's views and modifications.

Ernst
