I picked up a 9mm RIA 1911 a while back. It was horrible. The workmanship on it was awful. Matching marks everywhere, slide fit and finish was crap. It sounded like a maraca when you shook it. It wouldn't hit anything. Constantly shot about a foot low and 8" to the left. The parkerizing or what ever the greenish grey finish on it was horrible as well. I was not impressed to say the least. While I do not have an unlimited amount of money at my disposal, I prefer to buy quality firearms from reputable manufacturers. I know that any manufacturer can make a "Lemon" and I accept that but RIA is just cheaply made and made to be cheap. That in my opinion is not a good combination when I am holding something in my hand that is containing an explosion.

If RIA is your thing thats cool. Im not trying to change any ones mind or anything. Guess what Im saying is that they just aren't for me.

Interesting. I just picked up a RIA Commander in 10mm last week and I'm very happy with the fit and finish (especially on a $560 pistol).

Here it is

I put 100 through it this weekend and it shoots great.  I guess QC misses one occasionally.

Very nice. One of these days I'd like to pick up a nice wheelgun in 44 Special.

For what it's worth, I had 2 PPU factory rounds split on me.  The case seemed thin on the side of the split.  This was through a G20 with a KKM barrel. I have reloaded them as lower pressure plinking rounds and had another split with my Witness Match.  I'm going to give them a good look over before I reload them again.

Reloading 10mm ammo / PowerBond Bullets

I just ordered some PowerBond 180 gr plated HP bullets from TJ Conevera's.  PowerBond claims that they can be loaded at jacketed velocities.  Anyone have any experience with these?

More than likely their brass is more brittle and should be annealed or heat treated.  It is also possible the metalurgy is designed more for their ammo pressures than extremes and reloading uses.  ???

It looked to me like the case wall was thinner on one side.  I'll try and post a pic when I get a chance.

Standard boxed PPU hasn't shown anything. When you do a reload with the brass though, any number of things could happen with it at that point.

The new factory PPU has had problems also. I had 2 cases split out of 100. It didn't feel like it was loaded that hot either.

That was defective PPU Brass. And striped brass support.

I could be wrong, but I think any piece of brass would have blown being that far out of the chamber with that much pressure still present.  I'm not saying it was top notch stuff, but I don't think any would have a prayer of holding.

Greg

I wouldn't trust PPU brass for anything but plinking loads. I've had factory loads split and they were loaded on the light side. YMMV

Where are you at in SW PA?

I'm in Ohioville, about 1/2 hour west of the Pittsburgh Int'l Airport.

My entire family lives in Washington, PA about an hour away.

Know it well.  I have some equipment we service at Washington Hospital and up I79 at Joy Mining in Meadowlands.

General Discussion / Hello from SW PA

I just want to post a short intro to say hello.  I currently own a G29SF and G20SF that I picked up this year and love both of them.  I'd read a lot about the 10mm over the years and finally decided to pick up a G20SF.  After a few trips to the range I just had to have a G29SF.  I have only shot factory through both and must say what sweet pistols they are.  I was expecting a lot more recoil than with my G23 but was pleasantly surprised. I've reloaded up some 180 grain lead and look forward to getting back to the range.  I'm sure there's a wealth of reloading data and experiences on the forum and look forward to digging in.
