Why couldn't we have gotten the 10mm?

Sarsilmaz 9mm for $238!

Four years ago, I saw the the same pistol in 10mm in the Gun Digest Buyer's Guide. Why isn't it available?

EAA isn't going to import it in 10mm.

Probably because they are afraid it will dilute their Witness 10mm sales at a higher price point.

I don't get it. More sales = more money. No matter how many they sell, they'll likely sell as many, if not more, of the Witness line. A higher price point is often perceived as a higher measure of quality. (Econ. 212).

More sales does not equal more money.

If you have a potential pool of 10 buyers, who are willing to spend up to, say $500 on a product, would you rather sell ten $500 guns on which you make a 20% margin, or five $500 guns with a 20% margin and five $250 guns that you make a 15% margin on. 

In the first scenario you make $1000 on your ten sales.  In the second you make $687.50.

The problem is the 10mm market is relatively limited in size.  The Sarsilmaz would not have attracted enough more 10mm customers to make up for the loss of profit from guys who would have bought the Witness but instead bought the cheaper Sarsilmaz.  In the example above the market size would have to increase by 85% before they are making the same money.  And they would have higher admin costs for the additional guns they have to book.

I had inquired about the 10mm version back when EAA said they were going to sell them but they back pedaled saying they were not going to get the 10mm version...more disappointment!
