Slug gun bore sight options

I?ve been looking at bore sights to get closer with a scope I recently picked up for my Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Slugster. Are the cheapo ones what I?m thinking they will be, and be a complete waste of money, or will they actual kinda work? I don?t use a lot of optics, so for me, getting a nicer one wouldn?t be cost effective. I?ve seen some on Amazon for like15 or 20 that are getting great reviews, but everything on Amazon gets great reviews

I have this one. It has a magnet on it and sticks to the end of your barrel. Not even sure if I am using it right, to be honest. I stick it on the end of the barrel and try to center it as much as I can in the scope. Then shoot.  But it gets me on paper and I fine tune it from there. For instance on Monday I purchased a Savage 220 bolt action 20 gauge slug gun. I put a Nikon BDC 3-9x40 scope I had laying around. Went to the range and used the bore sighter. I moved the cross hairs to the center of the target that is seen in the bore sighter. When I shot at 50 yards I was high by 4" and left 2".  When I do sight in a new scope I always shoot at 50 yards to get it close to zero then stretch out to 100 and zero. This is what works for me, ymmv. I ve also used this and been really close to zero.

As long as I leave the scope on the gun I really dont see a need for an expensive one.

I know this is an old post but in case anyone new looks in:


I bought a handy little chamber bore-sight that chambers in my 12 ga slug gun and shoots a laser through the bore that I can sight in a scope on.  It has always got me on paper at 25 yards and then I can fine tune for any range I want at the shooting range.
