It is too hot for this

I melted down about 550 lbs of scrap lead into ingots on Saturday.  It was in the 90's and there I was in a long sleeve shirt hovering over a 750 degree pot wearing welding gloves with a mask on.  I drank about a gallon of water during the 4 hours I was at it.

And I am only about half done!

At least you have lead to melt ! and thank the LORD I have plenty also .It seems it is getting tougher to find.

Very true.  I feel for the guys that depend on wheel weights for lead.  That ship is weighing anchor.

I was doing the same thing Saturday.  It was about 95 degrees and no breeze to speak of.  HOT.  About 2 hours was all I wanted of that!

I do my smelting later in the year when it is NOT summer. Be careful of persperation building up in your face shield and then coming out on the surface of the lead.

I hear you all loud and clear, the RCBS 200 gr bullets I casted on a cooler morning but it didn't take long before it was too HOT to continue!  Turned the pot off and went in and cooled off!

I'm now seeing at least one reason a person may want to pick up and head off to Greenland.   Wonder if there is even anything to hunt on that iceberg of a landmass.  No doubt though, there are sometimes when summer isn't so great.
