So I have quite a bit of knowledge on long range rifle reloading. It's a freaking science. How does that transfer to a less than four inch handgun barrel?  Should I rack my brain trying to find a perfect load or just buy Underwood and save the time/money?

Daniel, if you know handloading, you're ahead of the game!  The thing is you can load premium rounds much better and as precise as you care to!
There are plenty pull downs shown here that you could match most any of the ammo being sold!  I will say that the G-29 with its shorter barrel will benefit from some of the slightly faster burning powders.  Power Pistol, BE-86, CFE Pistol, Autocomp, AA#7, Blue Dot, 800X...
Personally BE-86 has shown better velocity in the shorter barrels than powder like AA#9, however Longshot seems to do well.

Good luck with you decisions Underwood needs the business...

Plus BE-86 has a flash suppressant, unlike one of my favorites powders, Blue Dot

Evening, I'm pretty sure Lehigh offers what you may desire, but aren't cheap

Slight deviation from topic but... I wonder how fast you could push those 100 grain bullets on top of a proper load...

1700 fps reachable out of a carbine?

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled conversation.
"The meek shall inherit the Earth" is a mistranslation. Properly translated it would say: "Those who have swords and know how to use them, but keep them sheathed, shall inherit the Earth". Carry every day.

Should be no sweat out of a carbine.  You can get a 135 grain to 1550 from a pistol barrel.
