This whole issue that we are discussing has been hashed out for Double Tap Ammo in his past, I thing I remember a article about Buffalo Bore sometime back, SwampFox Ammo before Mike's demise also had some issues and now Underwood being the popular guy in the game of higher impulse and performance ammo these days is had to deal with getting supplies in the current market just like many others.

Some of what we are seeing with the latest issue of SMILES, bulges, popped primers is an indicator of pressure and soft brass allowing the expansion at this level in guns of varying setups from factory to aftermarket barrels and RSA.  When things are right things can happen when working so close to the upper limits.

I think deep down we are astounded by what is being seen and rightly so!  I am somewhat neutral, as I don't buy commercial ammo and roll my own.  By doing the pull-downs, I can compare to many loading manuals many have pressure values and with testing results (which I am way behind on), has shown what is being used and observations from the test tend to solidify the results.  You don't get something for nothing!  There always has to be that delicate balance with the scales tipped to the side of safety!  8)

If anyone wants to chime on the topic of hot Underwood 10mm, etc... I started a spot on my FB page off-line of here to keep this forum on the up and up. Feel free to lay it on the line and later I will send it to Kevin. David Sneed has already replied and I find some responses interesting:

I wonder why we don't see the 21A/20 load from Buffalo Bore around anymore?

I've looked for it at Cabelas with no luck, as well as not being able to find it on line. The BB site says it's out of stock.

Copied and pasted from Buffalo Bore's website:

Heavy 10mm Ammo -  220 gr. Hard Cast - FN (1200 fps/ME 703 ft. lbs.) - 20 Round Box

Item 21C (a 220gr. Hard Cast plain based LFN) is the absolute heaviest bullet that can be fired through 10mm pistols. With it's flat nose it will penetrate staright and very deeply into muscle and bone. Straight line penetration into living tissue will exceed three feet.

Please note below, my personal velocities taken from real pistols.

1.        1140 fps - Glock model 20 4.6 inch barrel

2.        1175 fps - Colt Delta Elite 5 inch barrel

3.        1201 fps - Para Ordinance 1911 with Nowlin 5 inch barrel

Item 21C is designed for all 10mm pistols that are in ordinary working condition

I predicted 1175 in my 4.75" and will do the 6" too... 1240 is my guess on that length.

I don't know on the 200's. This is the place to get them:

It looks like your prediction will be close to that.

Tim Sundles tells us he got 1140 out of a Glock 20, so David's number of 1115 might not be too far off the mark.

These guys have good prices! Unfortunately they are out of stock on the 200's as well.  :(

My math shows $125 plus per hundred.  Yep, more than a buck a round.

My hand loads with new brass run less than $0.40 a round.  About a third the rate.

I'll pass on the 20 pack.

The prices can't compare to reloading I know.

Those suckers are moving right along!

Question for the braintrust here at 10mikemike....I posted this on another forum this morning:

"Be careful if you decide to call the woods at night. I called in six bear one year in PA this way. Maybe get up in a treestand if you can, or set your back up against a large rock."

With this in mind, do we go with the Doubletap 230 or the Buffalo Bore 220?  :-\

I am just thinking out loud, but always appreciate the input here.

I think you use the large Meplat of the 230 and it will go through 3 feet of meat and bone. If all goes well with the initial offering of the 220's by PBR we could be on to something. I already suggested they do the 200gr Beartooth. So when they get out please support the effort with a box of 220's  :P

Sounds fair enough! Not to mention the Double Tap is almost $10 cheaper per box of 20.  :o

I think DT makes or has made for them the 230gr HC bullet. If I could find where it might be an option for Underwood or PBR, but at a little better velocity.

It is a very good bullet for the outdoorsman.
