I have a new Glock 40.  I am new to auto pistols.  I have read that factory Glock barrels lack case head support for hot 10mm loads.  I ordered a new 6" KKM barrel in order to shoot plated lead bullets and to obtain better accuracy.  I have read everything that I could find related to case head support in AM barrels.  I am concerned with safety as I have seen the pictures of case failure in Glocks.  Does the new version of the KKM barrel offer full case head support?

The factory barrel in your Glock 40 offers adequate case head support for any ammo that is remotely close to SAAMI spec for 10mm auto.  Your KMM barrel will likewise be just fine.

I have a G40 and I have a 6 inch KKM barrel too. Sqlbullet is right, I just placed both barrels side by side and dropped in factory rounds. I can't see much difference in terms of chamber support between the two. The feed ramps are different but the chamber support looks good either way. I think you'll get better accuracy out of the KKM.

I also have a G40 and I'm still looking for a reason to purchase an aftermarket barrel.
The factory barrel has similar case support to my RIA 1911.
I've loaded Longshot powder over book max, up to some of the pull downs, with no "smiles" or other indications of ruined brass.
I mainly shoot coated lead or Xtreme plated bullets and it shoots them better than I can.

I know factory Glock barrels are no good cause everyone on the interweb says so.  Mine must be defective. ;D

Thanks for the replies.  I looked at my factory barrel and it looks like their is plenty of support.  I have not noticed any smiles or other problems with the brass.  I have reloaded some 3 to 4 times so far.  I hope that the KKM provides better accuracy and allows the use of lead bullets but I have no complaints of accuracy of the Glock barrel.

KKM makes a damn fine barrel. You won't be disappointed.

I've been using a KKM, on and off, in my G20 for several years. You will see a bit better accuracy but you will be fine with either barrel. I have been reloading the 10mm at its upper limits for years and using them in the stock barrel with no problems. I have had a couple of FTF in the past in the KKM but they were rare and only when I was using a heavier spring with medium loads. The Glock factory barrel did not FTF under the same condition. That problem is my fault and no fault of KKM.
