When I bought my Smith and Wesson 45 shield, the LGS gave me a free box of PDX1's due to a promotion they had going.

I noticed reading the back of the box that it stated six segments. However these bullets have 8 segments.

This was confirmed upon testing in a block of clear ballistics gel.

Any idea of the update on these? I shot some years back and they indeed have six petals.

I know this is a bit of a Necro thread, but...

This may be an updated version of the bullet.  I have seen some other JHP bullet designs go to 8 petals in 45 acp while smaller calibers have been 6.

If you happen to still have that box, I could check the UPC number against what we currently carry at work.

Looks like an 8 leaf Ranger T to me.

I remember when I was confused why Speer made a 5 & 6 pedal Gold Dot for the 357 SIG.

ranger T are not bonded like in his expansion pic--- there is a ranger bonded series but they all used to have 6 pedals, and his has 8 --- must be the new design??

Seconding the "new design" opinion.  All of my 45acp inventory of 230gr Ranger T & 230gr PDX1 rounds are the 6 petal variety.

I didn't mean literally identical, they just reassemble an expanded Ranger T or Black Talon.
