Thanks for the help sqlbullet.  I'm guessing your full size is steel?

Looking at a Witness for my first 10 mm.  Problem is I haven't handled one.  Nor have I fired ANY 10 mm.  Not worried about recoil so much, carry an XDS .45 so can't be much worse than that, but still hear so much about it......Handled a Sig, and it really seemed like a big, clunky bear especially for only holding 8 rounds.  Also a Delta Elite, likely the ergonomics of the DE/1911 style but again only 8 rounds, so back to Witness to start anyway.

My question is how does the Witness compare in handling to those?  And, if I go Witness, should I go compact, standard, or match?

It's open carry, so size isn't as much of an issue---still a consideration, though.  If I had my way I'd carry a 12 ga & 3 hand grenades but that gets tiresome....

The compact-of course smaller and still have a 12 rnd mag.  How does it handle/shoot?  Recoil a lot more than the standard?  Give up a lot in accuracy??  Even considering it in composite but probably steel.

The match--honestly I just like the looks of this one more.  Looks sharp with the 2 tone, and is only 1/4" longer---how does that translate into every day, rubber meets the road feel?  Also 5-6 oz heavier--that plus a full mag would be a lot to carry.  Does it seem a lot larger than the standard?

I know those are very subjective questions but since I haven't even seen one of these in person I appreciate any help/opinions.  Also general on composite vs steel.

10mm semi-auto handguns / .22 LR Conversion Kits
September 08 2015 01:31:06 PM MDT
Can someone give me the lowdown on .22 LR conversion kits?  Looking at either the sig or witness 10 mm for my first 10 mm.  Both of them have .22 LR conversion kits available---but its hard for me to believe that one conversion kit will work for all--I mean those pistols have several models, calibers, frame styles--but I only see one ".22 LR conversion kit" for example, for all the sig p 220.  Will the same kit that fits a .45 DA/SA also fit the 10 mm SAO?  Same thing for Witness--there's quite a few different calibers/styles (Elite, stock 1, stock 2, etc.).

Is it just that the slide/internal mechanics are all pretty much the same dimensions whether it's a .22, 10 mm, .40, and whether it's a sig SA/DA or SAO, etc?  Just hard to believe that the same pistol that shoots a 10 mm will also take a .22  rimfire...., mag and all.  Thanks!

That MIGHT help me make a decision--for instance if the Witness conversion kit works, but the sig won't, etc.

Gear/Equipment / Holster question
September 08 2015 01:04:44 PM MDT
Sorry, simple question I should know the answer to.  Looking to buy my first 10 mm, right now looking hard at the Sig 220 and Witness.  My question is about holsters--currently carry a Springfield XDS, before that Walther P99.  Everyone makes holsters for those, they aren't hard to find.  But if I go to the major holster guys (that I know of--DeSantis, Galco, Milt Sparks), they don't list the 10's.  They may list Sig, but don't think it's the 10 mm SAO.

I'm guessing one can have a custom made holster for just about any pistol?  Just have to find someone that does true "custom"?  I'm just not sure--I thought pretty much all holsters were custom fit to the gun, but I'm guessing some may be mass produced?  Before I buy just want to be sure I can get a holster for it--thumb break, Condition 1.  (I know that little piece of leather between the hammer & firing pin may not matter to safety, but it does matter to me.....)  Thanks!!

10mm semi-auto handguns / EAA Witness Condition 1 carry
September 08 2015 10:01:26 AM MDT
Looking at purchasing my first 10 mm for open carry/car carry.  For some reason I'm having trouble finding if the Witness comes in SAO that can be carried cocked & locked.  Most of what I find is DA/SA online, but I saw a youtube video the guy said was SAO.   Thanks!

When you say "Brass with higher pressures" does that mean standard factory loadings?  And if it deforms the brass--what does that mean for me, since I won't be reloading--will those rounds eject okay?  Thanks!

Looking at my first 10 mm.  New to the forum, although I've gotten some good info just lurking around......I'm not all that familiar with 1911 style pistols, and have never fired a 10 mm.  Hunted/fished/shot all my life so a lifetime of bad habits built up, no formal training/competition etc.  Carried concealed for 20 years in Texas (currently XDS .45), but now that Texas is finally getting on board with open carry I'm looking at moving to a full size, larger pistol for carrying open. I'm very interested in a 1911 style (or something similar can carry Condition 1), and right now looking at Colt Delta Elite or Kimber.  Can someone explain a bit about what the chamber issue is/can be with the Colt?  My understanding of it is that the chamber doesn't enclose the entire round on the Colt, leaving a small part of the rear of the case not enclosed by the chamber.  That can lead to problems with hotter rounds?  Why is that different than the Kimber (or other 1911?)?  Is that a real issue if I'm only shooting commercial ammo?  Will have hotter commercial self defense loads of course, but I'm not planning on handloading/pushing any boundaries.  Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: Introductions
September 06 2015 02:41:28 PM MDT
Real name is Guy, live in New Braunfels, TX.  Wife & 2 kids, both boys ages 12 & 15.  Veterinarian by trade, small/companion animal practice I've had for 20 years.  Hunted, fished, shot all my life but no real training nor expert.  Just means I've got a lot of bad habits to live with & hope they don't ever really bite me in the butt.....  Most of what I've used is shotguns & hunting rifles, pistols generally only for plinking & (until Tx allows open carry this January) concealed carry.  Saltwater fish with the family a lot out of Port Mansfield, mostly bay but some light offshore.

Looking at my first 10 mm, Texas just passed open carry so I'm looking at upsizing a bit at least for one of my carry guns when I'm less worried about concealment.  Already gotten quite a bit of good info off this site just lurking, looking forward to getting more from you guys who have a lot more experience (10 mm & all the way around) than I do.
