General Discussion / Re: New Glock 10mm?
January 05 2015 06:55:14 PM MST
I'm chuckling to myself in agreement with sqlbullet, the model numbers associated with Glocks are definitely confusing given their correlation with caliber. Yanking the chain is so true, you know someone is sitting in their office chair somewhere in Austria snickering to themselves at the self induced irony.

That said, if these articles are legitimate and Glock will be releasing a factory long slide 10mm I say to you, HELL YES!

Although, the Modular Optics Systems is also a little confusing. Forgive me, I'm a little out of the loop on what it takes to mount an RMR type sight on your Glock, but I'm under the impression that the slide needs to be milled to accept it? Or at least drilled/tapped to accept a rail on which to mount the sight? Someone please set me straight, I know a few members here have setups like this. I like them and I get the point entirely, it's just that I would hope if Glock is finally going to offer the factory 10mm longslide, that they'd leave it to the customer if they wanted to do something like mill their slide out, and give us a model equal to the new G41 with regard to features, just in 10mm. I also agree with rw, a Gen 3 setup would be much more appealing to me.

I also loaded some up to 9.1 grains of IMR800X but did not fire them.  The 8.9grain load was already higher velocity than what I was looking for.  My absolute favorite load was with 8.4 grains of 800X and Winchester WLP primers. This was hands down the most consistent load of the bunch and gave me an average velocity of 1247 feet per second.  My target goal speed was 1250fps.  All other loads above 8.6 grains began showing inconsistent velocities. One thing that really stood out and can clearly be seen with my posted results, is how much of a difference it makes to switch from Winchester WLP primers to CCI 300 primers.  Otherwise identical loads routinely ran 40 to 50 feet slower with the CCI 300 primers.

This is definitely interesting and noteworthy information. It's awesome to see the numbers side by side, thanks for the report Dieselman!

10mm revolvers / Re: S&W 610 prices are out of control

I hear ya on the prices. Around the first of this year it seems 610's were going for $1100-$1200 on GB. I decided if I ever found one for $1000 or less I'd buy it. Now $1200 sounds pretty good.

Question to ponder - seeing this demand, why doesn't S&W make another run? Couldn't they sell them for 40%-50% more than what a new 629 costs?

Noooooooo!!! Don't tell them that!!! If S&W were to do them again they ought to be priced on par with the 686, OR LESS   :) that way they'd sell a boat load of them and give us devotees another 10mm path to send our money down. Also, if they're going to do it, they must make an 8-8.5" with an unfluted cylinder  ;)

rw, thanks for the response and the link, there really is a ton of information there! I'd read some posts on the gray beard boards through my google searching for info but did not realize they have such extensive H&R info.

You make very good points, maybe it's not worth getting into fixing it. We'll see, maybe something cheap will turn up!

Shotguns / Any topper experts?
November 18 2014 01:20:46 PM MST
At a gun show saturday I noticed a box of 'make offer' so naturally I went rooting through it. Found a complete reciever (less stock/barrel/forearm) for a H&R Topper M48, guessing 12 gauge or 16. No rust, Hammer cocks nice and tight, trigger is solid, firing pin gives a solid strike when the hammer falls, and all the guts seem tight. The guy seemed delighted to take my $10 for it so I can't complain, said he got it in a box of parts at an auction and didn't know much about it.

My question is does anyone know what barrels will fit on this? It's been mentioned that New England Firearms guns are similar or the same? Would this reciever take any of the 'handy-rifle' barrels? I'm pretty clueless on the H&R's but I know many people are fans. The only break-action i've messed with is my old Iver Johnson and I like it alot, so i'd like to try and get this thing back shooting if it's doable for cheap.

Any insight or information you guys can provide will be appreciated!

Also, note, looking through a random box of magazines at the show I found a perfect condition SW 1066 mag with a yellow follower for $15, fits the 1006 like a glove!  ;D

Glock talk is a business. They are out to make money and they don't want anyone pushing an outside website. They have so many ads I refuse to use their site. Last time I checked them out I had two popup ads, one for chevy and another for John Deere, and a big flashing John Deere ad at the top of the page.

They can keep it.

No ads here, ever. Guaranteed.

One of the many, many reasons this is one of the best forums around, You the man Patriot/Grim! :P

It's their loss Raggedyman, if they want to miss out on the information you have and are willing to share, it's their problem. Myself and I'm sure others here very much enjoy reading your articles and I don't believe you'll ever be shunned for sharing them here, keep up the good work!  8)

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: new source of brass

That is an add for a Distributor who is already Bulk ordering from JAG. We are looking at being able to skip the middleman and order direct from JAG, but they may be able to provide a list of distributors if they have started their 10mm runs.

that's what I figured I would get back but his reply was almost even more confusing . . .

This is what I sent him;

QuoteWhile perusing Armslist this morning I stumbled upon your ad for NEW 300BLK brass from JAG and it is very interesting to me because I was unaware JAG brass was available for purchase at a component level. While I load and shoot 300 blackout, I also load 10mm and a few of my fellow 10mm Auto enthusiasts have been speculating about when/if JAG will begin selling 10mm brass on a component level, either direct to us customers or through some sort of third party distributing.

So my question for you is this, are you (Blacksmith Armory) a distributor for JAG? Do you have any insight on how they are planning on going about their future component (any caliber) sales to customers?

I genuinely look forward to your reply and am grateful of any information you can provide.

Thanks in advance!

Brad

and his reponse ;

Sorry, I can't help much. We are not a distributor for them and can't offer any insight into their business plans; we have no interaction with them at all. We simply buy 300blk in bulk and split it up into smaller quantities for retail sale.

I guess I can't blame him(them) for being vague about it, I probably wouldn't want to give up my sources either

Well, this is a tad off from 10mm JAG brass but I noticed a listing here in PA that cought my attention - a fellow selling NEW unprimed JAG 300AAC brass. If he has new brass with a JAG head stamp (disregard caliber for this example) how do you think he may have gotten ahold of it? Maybe they already started component sales of certain calibers through some distributors? I believe I'll send the guy an email . . . Thoughts??

Looks great nochromeguns, I like that you have the PC there for immediate reference to 10mm-firearms.com should a question arise 8) That bench looks like a pretty stout piece for a Harbor Freight deal, very nice, nice handy work on the strong throne also, seems to fit the bill nicely!

They are brand new up there.  I have a bunch of PSA stuff in my AR's.  They tend to be a good firm.  No concerns.

I agree, everything I've gotten from them has been great! I picked up a plain jane flat top 'm4' style upper with the bcg from them a while back for $299 plus tax, shipping was free. That's a hard one to beat I felt. Hopefully their reloading supplies will be just good for price/quality! I would venture to guess that these are repackaged bullets from one of major plated manufacturers Coltitis mentioned berrys, ranier, xtreme, etc. What do you think? On another side note, I saw PSA is now selling threaded barrels for G17 and G19 . . . perhaps lone wolf or the like barrels stamped with the PSA logo???

Quote from: Coltitis on September 29 2014 08:23:39 AM MDT
Some venders/makers use "TMJ" for plated, and after looking at the picture you can see where the base is plated.  Just for comparison, E-XTREME-Bullets has their 200 plated for just a little cheaper - http://www.xtremebullets.com/10-40-200-RNFP-p/xc1040-200rnfp-b0500.htm
E-TREME has free shipping through the end of September vs Palmetto's in a ammo can but with postage added.

I like the Zero FMJ 200 grain bullet, just ordered some more from Powder Valley last night.  $229.00 for 2,000 plus shipping brings the total to about $247.00, or $61.75 per 500.

As a side note I have shot a lot of plated bullets from Berry's, Ranier, X-Treme and PowerBond.  They shoot fine for me, really like 'em in the .380, 9mm, 45ACP, and 10mm.

Thanks for the heads up on TMJ annotation on plated stuff, i'll be sure to look closer in the future. That's a good deal on the FMJ's, very nice! Also, thanks for the heads up on xtreme's free shipping, I'll check them out here directly. I'm on my second box of their 180g hp heavy plate concave base bullets and I agree with you, I like them alot, seem to be really consistent on weight and length.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Palmetto state 200g 'TMJ'?
September 29 2014 06:57:46 AM MDT
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/18132/s/psa-munitions-500ct-10mm-200gr-tmj-projectiles-in-psa-ammo-can/

I noticed this while perusing gun sites this morning and wondered if anyone's used them? I've ordered lot's of things from Palmetto and been very pleased with everything, but I've never gotten any projectiles from them. For the price, I almost don't believe that these are actually a TMJ like they mention. From the picture they look plated. Either way, I may just get some!Thoughts?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Reloading room mega thread!

Bringing up an old thread!! I moved back in July and now have a room to dedicate specifically to my firearms and my new reloading hobby so I figured I'd share a pic with you fellas. Just added the shelf, love the extra space but sort of second guess the design. Anyhow, at thise time loading for 10mm (of course!!), 40sw, 9mm, 45acp, and 300AAC (thanks Yondering for the help), I have all the components for .223Rem just haven't gotten to it yet, been fiddling with the 300 and 10's mostly  8)  thoughts, opinions, constructive criticism always welcomed! Anyone else have pics of their set ups to share??

Reloading / 9mm 100g TMJ and power pistol
August 21 2014 07:39:51 AM MDT
I picked up some Alliant Power Pistol powder recently and have used it in the 10mm and like it alot! I don't think it's as accurate in the SW1006 or G20 for me as the Longshot i've been using but its definitely fun and since my meter is already full of it I want to try it in 9mm. However, the only bullets I have are some 100g TMJ .355 and the 125g round noses from my lee mold. The data in the manual alliant sent me for this year shows 6.4g max with a 124g gold dot and 6.7g max with a 115g gold dot. I don't have many manuals and reading through a good many forums it seems that 100g bullets are much more popular/common with the .380acp reloaders.

That said, what do you all think gould be a good starting point for the load with power pistol and the 100g bullets? Perhaps 6.2g or so  to be safe? I've used these bullets with longshot and unique powders with fair results seated at 1.050 OAL shot from my SW5906

Why not add a 220g Shadow, one 200+g mold can't be enough  :P

I agree with both of you, a grooveless 200 or 220g would be great, for the reasons Shadow has listed. I know I've seen the group buys for grooveless molds for powdercoat but none in .401-.403 that come to mind at any weight. A nice grooveless 4-6 cavity .403 200+g making bullets under .640 long would look awfully nice in the mold drawer  8)
