I guess that?s because he passed when I was 9, plus I didn?t know if hand / tool sharpening would do justice to a high quality blade, possibly even wrecking it?..just sayin
I've had great luck with this system:

Pretty much fool proof.

That looks like a good system, I have used the Lansky system for many years.

I have carried my Mini Griptilian for about 15 years.  Bent the pocket clip and tried to buy another clip but Benchmade refused to sell me one, just sent me a new one with new screws.
The knife is D2 steel and has never failed me.  Eady to open and close with one hand.

Benchmade has a pretty good thing going, they?re expensive, but darn nice

I have the same one, for about the same amount of time. Best pocketknife I've ever owned.

Any of you own or tried Benchmade?s automatic knives? I could carry 5 pistols in MN if I wanted to, yet I?m not allowed to to have automatic knife, silly laws

I have a couple of automatic Benchmades that we've has for quite a while. Forget the names and would post a pic but don't know how.  I think the larger one was called the AFO and was made on a govt. contract a fait # of years ago; it's totally sterile.
Firearm resale value should be your kids' problem.
