Lucked into a nice quantity of Winchester 175 gr. Silvertips and Starline brass. Just can't seem to find a recipe to emulate or a close facsimile to factory stuff. Also acquired Hornady 155, 180, and 200  gr. XTP's.
Also Nosler 135 & 200 gr. HP's. Will be using Glock 20 & 29; S/W 1006 & 1066 and Colt Delta Elite. Hope someone is willing to share. Thnx

To closely approximate the facotry loads safely, Start with 13.5gr of Accurate #9, work up in .3 gr increments until you are getting 1275fps then stop. You can probably run this a bit faster but that is beyond my experience level to comment on. Good luck!

What powders do you have on hand to work with?  Blue Dot, LongShot, AA#7, AA#9, Power Pistol, IMR800X
You can find data from the powder makers online for most powders with comparable weights...
Where do you want to be velocity wise?  Factory loads were 1225 fps from a 5" barreled semiauto.

If it were me I load 10.6 grains of Blue Dot for a very accurate load, if you want more you could bump it up to 11.0 grains to be about 1285 fps.

Just curious if you own a chronograph?
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

Hi 4pdcarry.

Here are some load options that should fairly closely simulate factory loads for the Win STHPs and the XTPs. These are based upon my own testing from my handloads. All of the following data assume Starline Brass and CCI 300 primers except where noted. These are based upon my own workups in my G20 run over my chronograph. All functioned safely and well in my testing. Please reduce and work up carefully. Please verify my numbers against published load data since I am prone to typos! Of course, your setups will be different from mine so the charge weights will be give-or-take. Work up carefully using a chronograph until you find what you like.

The Silvertips should work ok using data for 180 gr JHPs. I have not handloaded Silvertips, so I am substituting data for 180s.  In my G20, factory Sivertips chrony 1150 fps. Based upon my testing of various powders with 180s, some options to get you there would be:

Powder options:

Accurate no. 9: somewhere between 13.0 grains and 13.5 grains should get you there.
Blue Dot: 10.0 to 10.2 grains.
Hi-Skor 800-X: around 8.6 grains (WLP primer)
Accurate no. 7: Around 10.6 grains

Factory 155 XTPs have a box flap claim of 1265 fps. That might translate to about 1215 fps in a G20.

Some options
Accurate no. 7: about 12.0 grains
Blue Dot: about 11.2 grains
Accurate no. 9: about 14.9 grains

Factory 180 XTPs have a box flap claim of 1180. That might translate to about 1130 fps in a G20.

Some options

Accurate no. 9: about 13.0 grains
Accurate no. 7: about 10.4 grains
Blue Dot: About 10.0 grains
Longshot: about 8.5 grains
Hi-Skor 800-X: about 8.5 grains (WLP primer)

Factory 200 XTPs have a box flap claim of 1050 fps so probably about 1020 fps in a G20

Options:

Accurate no. 9: about 11.6 grains (WLP primer)
Hi-Skor 800-X: about 7.2 grains
Longshot: about 7.0 grains

4pdcarry, looking at your screen name, are you involved with LEO?  If yes you may want to use powders with less flash signature!  Therefore other choices and recipes would be needed!  :-[

I don't know of an agency that would allow you to carry hand loads. My agency is very particular as to the rounds we carry.  Winchester Ranger  9mm  147 grn JHP or 45 ACP  230 grn  JHP

Good call. I forget the name of the member of GT who did some nice slo-mo photography of muzzle flash. He found Accurate no. 7 to be a great powder and that regard, and #9 to be pretty good too. Out would be Blue Dot, Longshot, and 800-X.

"Duty carry" is but one reason for firearms and/or shooting, to those it may apply.  You're right, though.  I don't know of an agency that does, or would, authorize anything but commercial ammo, on or off duty.  Many agencies issue ammo that must be carried.  When in doubt, consult the policy manual, or ask someone who might be interested if you did use the "wrong" ammo (like I.A.).

I left LE a decade ago, but certainly none of the agencies around here allow you to carry handloads.  Most don't allow much leeway in selection of sidearm, though occasionally you find a department that does.

This will date me..........
We were issued the FBI 38 special load, 158 SWC hollow point for our S & W Model 19 four inch. (sigh) My partner was a gun guy also, somehow? the bullets fell out of a whole box of cartridges and were reloaded with 12.5 grains of 2400.(carefully) We never got to use them though, too bad.
I did shoot three cylinder fulls of factory Winchester at an idiot one afternoon hiding in a snow pile and sticking Browning High Power over the top and emptying in our direction. I was not so happy afterwards when we started recovering bullets that went 8 to 10 inches in snow...........and did not hit the idiot.
Wish I had a G20 or even a 357 load then.
