Well it seems my model 20SF with Lone Wolf Longslide will have some company.

I ordered a new model 40 today. Looking forward to wringing it out. Most likely leave it stock and run few hundred rounds through it . Then decide to get some after market upgrades.

I watched Hickock45's review of the Glock Model 40 with admiration. A longer "polygonal" barrel should increase the efficiency of the cartridge. Couple a 3" longer barrel with Underwood ammunition would likely enhance the round's effective penetation (and expansion) at range.

God help me, but I feel that the extendeed barrels are the "long suit" for the cartridge.

Agreed and considering I have the cartridge setup on my Hornady press and reload 100% I will ring the most from this gun.

I have the Mihec mold and it drops 220 grain WFN cast and I also can cast HP so it may very well be that I put an after market barrel with conventional rifling.

What kind of upgrades are you considering?

What barrel length, 9"?

Trigger and barrel those two seemingly simple changes have made a world of difference in my model 20'SF.

I have been looking at that 9" and frankly might buy one to try but for hunting and carrying they seem a little long. But certainly it would be fun to mess with and see how it improves the 10 In a handgun.  I am going to guess with most powders a 75-140 FPS improvement over the 6". On the other hand if you are going to put optics on the gun you certainly can take advantage of that.

Watch Hickock45's evaluation of the Mech-Tech in 10mm Auto. This will give you an idead of what you can expect when the barrels reach carbine lengths. OTOH, you can go to Ballistics By The Inch (BBTI) and see what velocities/energies are developed from a closed-breech (no b/c gap) 9" barrel length. Then you can determine whether, or not, it is worth the time and expense to buy the 9" barrel.

Were it my Glock, I would buy a Glock 40, then have the 9" barrel installed. This would seem better suited for carry.

That's great to hear reviews are very positive.

Captain O

Save for what has come to light on this Forum, the reviews have been quite positive. A 9" barrel will cause the barrel to extend 3" beyond the end of the slide. I can't see how it would be completely "unwieldly". Remember, Ruger made Super Blackhawk revolvers with 12" barrels and no one complained about those.
