:P  Went out yesterday and chronographed a bunch of ammo I loaded up. Wanted to replicate the old Dornaious and Dixon/Norma + current Buffalo bore loads for my Delta ELite. HAd tried to do so with AA$7 but did not get there before we busted a case head wide open. AA#9 is a much slower burning powder so I had great hopes. Loaded four rounds each at 14.0, 14.2, 14.4, 14.6, and ended at 14.8

Sweet spot hit at 14.6 with average speeds of 1375 yet only a standard deviation shot to shot of ELEVEN! Showed good accuracy at the target, too.

New Starline Brass (which I have no plans to try to RE use) Winchester primers, nothing fancy but seems to be a KICK BUTT carry/duty/hunting load.

What say ya'll?

Why would you not try to reuse them?  Are they bulged? "Smiled"?  The only ones I haven't reloaded were those that I recieved "Smiled" or split prior to reconditioning!  But many are trying to sell used brass at too high of a price to be of interest to me these days.  BTW I use a "Pass-Thru" sizing system to recondition my brass...The LEE FCD with the guts removed and LEE bullet push pin from a LEE bullet sizing kit, this provides a carbide "Pass-Thru" sizing ring.

I will even reload a smiled one, albeit with a medium load.  Max loads are only for new brass on my bench.

+1 on a Lee FCD die as a pass through size die.  Works great!

Good report safariman.

That seems to be a pretty stout load you've created there.   ;D

A9 is my favorite powder for 10mm. Great metering, case fill, velocities, and groups. The only thing I don't like it is that you burn through a can so fast @ 14 grains per pop.

Have you ever tried WC820.  It is listed on most surplus sites as H110, but back when it was loaded H110 and AA#9 were the same burn rate.  Since then H110 has slowed down, so most of the pull-down powder is really about the same as AA#9.

If you can afford to stock up or get some guys to share the hazmat fee, or get 6 jugs so the fee is waved, it is a pretty good deal.

I make it a habit of tossing any smiled brass. They are pretty severely compromised. Considering that they are less than 15 cents shipped from Starline, it is not a big deal to toss a few in my opinion.

Here is a good thread with a cross-section of a smiled (really we should call it a frown) case.

Looking at those pics, none of mine have smiled that big.  Those would definitely make it into the scrap brass bin from my bench.

My smiles come from my Para.  I think the previous owner had some custom work done to the chamber for it's life as an IPSC race gun.  I had a few mild smiles from some Unique loads that were near max pressure that got recycled.

I have not seen any from my guns that are even close to this.

Thanks for linking it Taterhead, "Pass Thru" sizing doesn't help the "Smiled"/"Frowned" brass, the metal has started to shear on the molecular level.

So, over on another forum I got lambasted pretty badly for even trying these loads. They are for a customized (dual HEAVY recoil springs, for example) DElta Elite of mine that still is running its oroginal unramped barrel. Any of you think that 14.6gr and 1375 is too hot to run these at? I am an old hand at rifle reloading but new to loading for a semi auto pistol. the kinds of things we could use for pressure indicators with a rifle do not apply to pistol cartridges, or at least if the DO show up they are signs of MEGA too high pressures.

I would simply say;  NICE!  IMO that makes a great all around carry load.  I prefer lighter bullet weights myself, but wouldn't knock those for a second.
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.
