Reloading components

Is anyone having any success finding 10% of what they are looking for to reload. I have been looking for a paticular bullet for 2 months with no success. I did find a box of Speer 165gr Gold Dots in .400 yesterday and at 34.00. But that was the only .400 box in the building. I look online at most of the usual places and they never seem to have anything. I guess its turned into a backorder world. I just try to find components for a friend who loads me some loads to play with and hunt with.If I find it I buy it. Figure it can always be used to trade for maybe something I want. Primers seem semi hard to find, bullets impossible, brass usually semi easy, and powder the list he gave me is non existant.Guys when ammo is tight and reloading components get tight that tells me someone is getting it all. So who is it.Hoarders,Uncle Sam cause the manafactures are running wide open yet we still see none of it. Gun stores can not get any from distributors so where is it all going. As high as things are I know were are not shooting it all up.

Everybody is hoarding and it has little to do with Uncle Sam.

I'm waiting on bullets just like you and have been for months already too.  XTPs specifically for me at this time.

You have to realize, it's not only store shelves trying to get restocked at this point, it's also the distributors themselves.  In the meantime the bullet/powder/primer/brass manufacturers are moving along at their normal pace, which I take no beef with in the bigger picture of current out-of-stock scenarios.

Right now it's a patients game.  Bullets will get back on the shelves when they do and not before, and in the meantime there are plenty of hoarders still waiting to jump on anything that becomes available including myself.  For now it is simply a dog eat dog world out there in the world of cartridge handloading components.

In the meantime all we can do is kick back and wait our turn.  Don't get me wrong, there will still be lots of budding in line for a while yet. ;D

45 days ago I had zero bullets. ZERO. Honestly the only thing I had in 10mm was the 45 rounds of silvertips issued as my duty ammo. I had tons of primers and 1 1/2 pounds of Unique. That's it. Since that day when I realized the shelves are empty I have acquired enough brass, bullets and powder to make 2000+ rounds.

I did this a few ways. I ordered brass from starline, and ordered some every time midwayusa got it in stock. I used gunbroker to win auctions for hard to find powders like longshot and 800x. Gunbroker was also used for some brass and bullets, like the bag of silvertips i found for $40.  Cabelas and midway and Natchez occasionally had bullets and powder and I would order a little at a time. I spent more than I should on some items but its worth it to know I have enough to make it through hunting season and beyond. I will continue this strategy until I have enough for about 5000 rounds.

Things are appearing back on shelves again.  Primers really haven't been near the problem they were the last time.  Bullets are really tough to find around here unless you want Berry's or something similar and then you can find some here and there.  Powder can be found occasionally.  I think its going to be at least through August or September but I think the tax return and year end bonus money all the hoarders have been spending is running out and manufacturers are catching up.

That's kind of argueable yet IMO.  Well, unless you're looking for shotgun or blackpowder stuff.

How is none available on a normal off the shelf retail store (online or not) better (handgun or rifle)?

Am I'm missing the store that's hording everything?

Well I look everyday like most on here and very seldom do you find anything in .400. you can find 500 Nitro Express and other rifle bullets but .40 pistol bullets are almost like gold nuggets. Iordered a box of those 200gr Noslers and found a box of Speer Gold Dot 165 gr at a gun store thwe other day but they were 10.00 higher than normal 35.00 for box of 100.I am looking for Barnes all copper in 155 gr and I can not find them anywhere. Anybody that knows where some are please PM me. We might work up a trade or just a buy.10mm brass is getting very scarce and the powders I have been told to watch for might as well be uranium.

Cabela's has IMR 800x powder in stock on their website, as well as Nosler 135 gr hollowpoints.

I wentto order a box of those Noslers from Midsouth and by the time I got shipping and tax it went from 45 to 67.14.00 for shipping and tax. No thanks on that deal.30 percent for shipping and tax.

Yeah, some places don't compete so well with shipping charges.  Not that I think they're wrong for charging any somewhat reasonable amount of shipping.

I really like Graf & Sons overall.  Good prices and a flat $5.95 shipping and handling charge.

I can get rifle or pistol any size in any one of three stores near me.  Sportsmans Warehouse always has Remington and Federal, Bob Wards has CCI and then Montana Outdoor Sports has CCI and lots of them and its hit and miss on a few other sporting good stores in the area.  If you are satisfied with berry's or HSM plated bullets they are available although not always in the weight you want.  Between the three stores listed above and a few others I can regularly find 800-x and Longshot.  This is what my comments of things turning around are based on.

DFW .....No large pistol primers locally, most places when I ask ECD they laugh. All your premium pistol powders the same  >:(

Got a gift from a friend yesterday (shooting buddy).  His LGS actually got a shipment of Winchester LP and SP primers.  They rationed them to 500 each for everyone on the "call list".

You're lucky.  It's not that way everywhere yet.  Plus no XTP or GD anywhere yet.  Primers near to nonexistant as far as I've seen, though I only have interest in LP.  I have seen some 800-X at one place, but no Longshot yet.  But yeah, it largely depends on what a guy is looking for.  For me it's 10mm components only, and then I'm still very specific in what I want, for example I have zero interest at this time in any non premium bullet.  Glad things are looking up by you!  Hopefully it only gets better and doesn't take a near future swing back the other way yet.
